Specifically formulated as a companion to our lip serum, this lip balm is fortified with the same key ingredients set in a stiffer wax base that is designed to sit on top of your skin and create a physical barrier between delicate skin and the environment.
Apply after our Honey & Olive Oil Lip Serum has had a chance to mostly absorb (~10 minutes) or whenever you would normally apply lip balm. If used alone, apply to moist or damp skin, as this balm has been formulated to create a protective barrier to seal in moisture rather than to deliver moisture on its own.
What's in the Jar
Sunflower Seed Wax gives formulations a high gloss, a non-sticky finish, and a low level of absorption into skin as compared to beeswax. The result is a balm that goes on smooth and dry, and stays there without melting or absorbing.
Olive Oil is emollient and occlusive, meaning it softens and moisturizes within skin and forms a barrier on top of skin preventing moisture loss and protecting the skin from the surrounding environment. It is rich in squalene, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and rich in Vitamins A, D, E and K
Honey is incredibly moisturizing and promotes wound healing. It has emollient, humectant and occlusive properties, meaning it smooths and softens, draws water into the skin, and forms a barrier on top of the skin that prevents moisture from leaving and environmental damage out.
Jojoba Oil is chemically so similar to sebum (skin’s natural oil) that the body responds to it as though it were sebum. This allows jojoba oil to penetrate quickly, easily and deeply into skin, pulling its humectant, (selectively) antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties with it.
Shea Butter is one of the few strongly occlusive ingredients that is non-comedogenic. This means it is highly protective, greatly reducing trans-epidermal water loss, without giving a slick, heavy feel. It is also an emollient, meaning it softens and hydrates skin.
Castor Oil is rich in fatty acids that soften and hydrate skin from within and promote healthy tissue growth. It also has humectant properties that help to draw water deep into the skin, and is both anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial which can help to calm sensitive skin.
Why Apply to Moist Lips?
Because lip skin is among the most porous and delicate on your body, it is highly susceptible to moisture gain and loss. So susceptible, in fact, that you will almost definitely notice that your lips are smoother and plumper after wetting them with water, which will then almost immediately begin to leach back out once absorbed. If you want to maximize the amount of hydration in your lips, you will get the best results by starting will fully hydrated lips, a few minutes after they have been wet. This is true regardless of the type or brand of product used.
